Vue vs React in 2025: Honest Comparison from a Full-stack Team
A practical comparison of Vue 3 and React 19 for real-world projects. Performance, DX, ecosystem, and when to choose which.
Vue vs React in 2025: Honest Comparison from a Full-stack Team
At AINGERS, we use both Vue and React in production. This isn’t a “Vue is better” or “React is better” article — it’s what we’ve learned from shipping projects with both in 2025.
Current State of Affairs
React 19 brought Server Components, improved Suspense, and better performance. The ecosystem is massive, and Next.js continues to dominate SSR.
Vue 3.5+ matured significantly with Vapor Mode (experimental), better TypeScript support, and a refined Composition API. Nuxt 3 is a solid meta-framework.
Where Vue Wins
Learning Curve
Vue is easier to pick up. The single-file component format (template + script + style) is intuitive. New developers on our team become productive with Vue in 1–2 weeks, compared to 3–4 weeks with React.
Template Syntax
Vue’s template syntax is closer to HTML. For teams where designers review frontend code, this matters. v-if, v-for, and v-model are immediately readable.
Bundle Size
Vue 3’s core is ~33KB gzipped vs React 18’s ~42KB (with ReactDOM). For performance-critical applications, this gap adds up.
Two-Way Binding
v-model makes form handling trivial. React’s controlled components pattern works but requires more boilerplate.
Where React Wins
Ecosystem Size
npm downloads don’t lie: React has 5x more packages. For any feature you need, there are likely 3–5 maintained React libraries. Vue might have 1–2.
Server Components
React Server Components are a genuine innovation. Vue doesn’t have an equivalent yet. For data-heavy applications, RSC reduce client-side JavaScript significantly.
Job Market
More companies use React, which means more developers know it. If you’re building a product and plan to hire, React makes recruitment easier.
TypeScript Integration
React’s JSX/TSX approach provides better TypeScript inference than Vue’s template syntax. Vue 3 improved dramatically, but React still has the edge for type-heavy codebases.
Performance Comparison (2025)
Based on our real-world benchmarks (not synthetic):
| Metric | Vue 3 | React 19 |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Load (SSR) | Slightly faster | Slightly slower |
| Runtime Updates | Comparable | Comparable |
| Memory Usage | Lower | Higher |
| Build Time (Vite) | Faster | Comparable |
The honest answer: for 95% of applications, performance difference is negligible.
Our Decision Framework
Choose Vue when:
- Team has more backend experience
- Project needs fast prototyping
- Forms and CRUD are the core functionality
- You value simplicity and conventions
Choose React when:
- You need Server Components
- Hiring React developers is part of the plan
- Complex state management is required
- Ecosystem breadth is critical
What We Use at AINGERS
- Vue 3 (Nuxt) — for most client projects, internal tools, admin panels
- React (Next.js) — when clients specifically request it, or for projects requiring RSC
- Astro — for content sites and marketing pages (framework-agnostic)
The best framework is the one your team ships quality code with. Pick one, learn it deeply, and build great products.
